Geolocation Accuracy

All geolocation services supported by Hide & Show PRO use IP geolocation to map a user’s IP address to a physical location. This process is used to determine the continent, country, region, and city of the user.

Although IP geolocation can pinpoint a user’s general location, it’s not always 100% accurate. This is because IP addresses can be spoofed, or incorrectly registered, and different geolocation services can have different coverage areas.

As a result, it’s possible for a user’s true location to be different from that which an IP geolocation service reports. In most cases, however, the information provided by a geolocation service is still quite accurate.

As a general rule, the more specific the location being requested is, the less accurate the result will be. In most cases, continent and country location data will be accurate across all geolocation services. However, the accuracy of region and city location data can vary widely and should therefore be used with some caution when being used for displaying critical or sensitive website information.
